Taking Screenshots with Virtual U
Depending on your needs the ability to take screenshots of Virtual U in action may be needed. To do this you will need some useful graphics software and an understanding of how to create screenshots with Windows.
Software
Adobe Photoshop, JASC's Paint Shop Pro, Microsoft Photo Editor, or Lview Pro are all excellent choices to edit, crop, and save screenshots you take with Virtual U. Visit the following Web sites to download trial versions, or purchase full copies of any of these packages if you don't have them.
Photoshop: www.adobe.com
Paint Shop Pro: www.jasc.com
Lview Pro: www.lview.com
Microsoft Photo Editor www.microsoft.com
We recommend Paint Shop Pro if you don't have a graphics package. It's inexpensive and easy to use. If you have a full installation of Microsoft Office there is a good chance you have the Microsoft Photo Editor product as well.
Creating a Screen Shot
Creating a screen shot is a several step process:
- Start by running you favorite photo editing software. Then run Virtual U.
- Get Virtual U to a point in the game that you want to capture and prior to this we recommend you turn off Threshold Events (found on the Menu Screen) as this can hamper the process. Also, remember to stop game time too!
- Once you've set things up perfectly press SHIFT+PrtScn (Print Screen Button). The Print Screen Button can be found many different places depending on your keyboard so forgive us if we can't tell you specifically where it is. It's usually near your cursor keys.
NOTE: We recommend pressing SHIFT+PrtScn several times rapid-fire for each shot as sometimes it takes a couple of presses to get Windows to do the capture.
- Switch out of VU (Alt+Tab will do this) and into your graphics application.
- In your graphics application choose Edit then Paste from the menu or press CTRL+V and it should cause the captured screenshot to display.
NOTE: If you are running Photoshop it is necessary to create a NEW image first before pasting a captured shot into it. Choose File, then New from the menu before pasting your screen shot.
- Save your screenshot however you wish but we recommend JPEG format which makes it easy to post on the Internet or send through Email.
- To take another screenshot simply return to Virtual U (Alt+Tab) and capture a new screen by press SHIFT+PrtScn again.
NOTE: If when you return to Virtual U to take a shot there are areas of the screen blacked out - return to the game menu and re-run Virtual U.
