May 2004 - Education Arcade @ E3 Expo
Virtual U project director Ben Sawyer will be discussing lessons learned from the development of Virtual U
at the Education Arcade conference held during the 2004 E3 Expo.
March 2004 - Serious Games Summit
Held at the 2004 Game Developer's Conference, this summit of game developers working on "serious games" like
Virtual U was co-organized by some of the members of Virtual U's project team.
11 March 2004, VU @ Harvard School of Education
The Sloan Foundation's Jesse Ausubel, one of VU's founders, visited a lively
class at the Harvard Graduate School of Education using VU taught by Prof. James
Honan. Patricia Graham, President Emeritus of the Spencer Foundation,
which also helped sponsor VU, attended as well.
June 2003 - Virtual U Workshop At University of Guadalajara, Mexico
The Virtual U project, is helping university officials produce a workshop featuring Doug Toma of UPenn
and Virtual U for over 50 administrators and university officials from around Mexico.
Feb 2003 - Virtual U Shown at Serious Games Workshop
Virtual U was featured at the Serious Games Workshop produced by The Serious Games Initiative in D.C.
Attendees saw VU in action, and heard how VU offers a model for future game-based simulation projects.
Mar 2002 - Virtual U Retreat: Maricopa Community College
Maricopa Community College invited Virtual U project team member Ben Sawyer to help train and lead a discussion
among administrative staff about VU as part of a staff retreat day.
Mar 2002 - Virtual U Retreat: Washington D.C.
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute used Virtual U for its financial staff retreat. Lead by Virtual U project
team member Ben Sawyer, staff were trained how to play Virtual U and then played two custom scenarios. A discussion
about VU strategy was used to help with strategic planning thinking.
Feb 2002 - Virtual U Conference: Philadelphia
The first VU conference featuring classroom users was held. 25 members of leading university administration
programs trained with VU and pledged to adopt it as part of their cirriculum joining our growing list
of classroom adopters.
Feb 2001 - Virtual U Conference: Washington D.C.
The second VU conference featuring VU designer Dr. William F. Massy is held as
follow on for the ACE annual meeting in Washington D.C. and features over a dozen attendees.
September 2000 - Online Learning 2000
Beth Bryant from the Virtual U project attended Online Learning 2000.
October 2000 - Virtual U: Game Version release
Ben Sawyer from the Virtual U project attended Educase 2000.
November 4-5, 2000 - VU Conference San Francisco
The first VU conference featuring VU designer Dr. William F. Massy is held for over a dozen attendees.
